Supervision as Spiritual Practice
English
For Robin Shohet and the contributors to this book, spiritual practice may be defined as the awareness there is something more to human existence than just us, as separate individuals. A spiritual perspective enables us to make deeper connections with ourselves, and accordingly with each other. We move from the finite game of measuring results and outcomes to the infinite game where creativity and new possibilities can emerge, transcending what Shohet argues is socially conditioned fear-based separation from each other and all that is. And this too is the role and purpose of supervision, as explored in this book. Shohet brings together essays by counsellors and coaches from a diploma course on supervision as spiritual practice. Contributors write with brave honesty and vulnerability about their journeys; how they came to embrace a state of not knowing, making space for greater depth and connection in the supervisory relationship which can translate into all relationships.
