THE ARTIST. For most, the name Jobs is synonymous with richly blooming fabrics that have been among the classics of Swedish textile art since the 1940s. Less well known is that Lisbet Jobs (190961) and her sister Gocken Jobs (191495) first trained as potters. As two independent artists they then worked side by side and their works gained international fame. Aurora was designed for textiles by Lisbet Jobs in 1956. The pattern was composed in Leksand, Dalarna, where the sisters shared a studio. It is inspired by the surrounding flowering meadows and flower beds. Sketches for the pattern can be found in the National Museum's archives in Stockholm, Sweden.
THE FINAL WORD. As William Morris said, Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.
