The booklet written by Michael Galea on the life and times of Dr. Felice Cutajar (1739- 1815) covers the dying years of the Order's rule and the short French occupation and early British period . He was the first top civil servant once the​ British​ took over the administration of the island , and secretary to the first civil commissioner​ Sir Alexander Ball.

 

Galea gives a documentation history of Cutajar's life , and​ in particular describes his ability to act as the first Maltese Public​ Officer.

 

Cutajar was entrusted with matters related to institutions and departments of Government, which were staffed by Maltese functioneries , since he was the top Maltese​ public officer in the British administration. From an administrative point of view he was a bridge between the past and the present​ in the early 19th century.

He died in 1815.
