The booklet written by Michael Galea on the life and times of Dr. Felice Cutajar (1739- 1815) covers the dying years of the Order's rule and the short French occupation and early British period . He was the first top civil servant once the British took over the administration of the island , and secretary to the first civil commissioner Sir Alexander Ball.
Galea gives a documentation history of Cutajar's life , and in particular describes his ability to act as the first Maltese Public Officer.
Cutajar was entrusted with matters related to institutions and departments of Government, which were staffed by Maltese functioneries , since he was the top Maltese public officer in the British administration. From an administrative point of view he was a bridge between the past and the present in the early 19th century.
He died in 1815.
