Find Your Voice in the Visual Arts: Doodles & Other Creative Paths

English

By (author): Diane Solvang-Angell

This book is about raw visual imagination and the essential creative practice that's required to be a visual artist. The book is broken into three sections: Doodles, Sketchbooks, and Creative Tips. A fourth section is a Gallery of the author's paintings and illustrations ... with the story behind each. The Doodle section is devoted to some of the author's 500-piece doodle collection -- accumulated over many years, grouped according to subject and style. The Sketchbook section is about the ups and downs of keeping a sketchbook -- everyone does it differently but there are tips and rules of thumb that make the sketchbook an effective tool in personal and professional artistic development. The book offers encouragement and urges artists to overcome perfectionism in the interest of producing in a large enough volume to find one's native themes and to develop an individual style. Also includes a 90 day sketchbook journey -- with a different sketch for each day. Creative Tips is where the author examines the value of art and offers different ways to build your creative muscles. See more

About Diane Solvang-Angell

Diane Solvang-Angell is a graphic designer and illustrator based in Seattle. She has worked for many years as a freelance designer and illustrator as an instruction of graphic design and as a marketing communications manager with a Fortune 500 company. Solvang-Angell was an art student in Seattle when she first encountered Fed Griffin an artist art teacher and a practical philosopher who was conducting experiments into the application of logic to graphic design with particular reference to the need of commercial designers to turn out projects on demand . . . whether or not their muse happened to be active that day.
