This is a concise, didactic introduction and overview covering both the materials as well as construction principles for advanced display technology. The book illustrates the importance of choosing not just suitable materials but also optimal techniques for constructing displays for all kinds of applications, ranging from the smallest mobile to large static appliances. As a professor and chief technologist of several startup companies, the author is involved in both the academic as well as the commercial sides of this topic, with access to the science forefront and markets alike. He guides readers from the physical fundamentals and general principles to the individual properties and functions of display materials and how to design and construct them. Along the way, he covers new nanotechnological and nature-imitating approaches for the optical visualization of information, concluding with a speculation of what the future may hold. The result is a mine of knowledge where chemists, materials scientists, physicists and electronics engineers will find information on all the interdisciplinary aspects involved.
