Plant Guide for U.S. Coastal Restoration & Protection
English
Many native coastal plant species play a major role in the formation of sand dunes and also protect shoreline areas from erosion. These plants often produce foliage and deep root systems that assist in the formation of a sand dune over time. The foliage of these species reduces wind velocity and filters sand from the wind, and their deep root systems help to anchor dunes to their foundation. The end result is a dense mat of vegetation which anchors the dune below its surface and traps more windblown sand. This book explores and discusses the selection and use of plants for coastal stabilization and habitat restoration; a description of the plants, their areas of occurrence, commercial availability, and special propagation or planting needs and information on coastal ecology and revegetation
