Regiments of King George II and George II

English

By (author): C. E. Franklin

For the first time a book in full colour identifies the changes in uniforms, facings and braid of the soldiers of George II and George III between 1742 and 1768. In 1743 George II led the British army to its first major conflict in over twenty years and became the last British monarch to personally lead troops into battle at the Battle of Dettingen. Carl Franklin's beautifully illustrated fourth volume for the History Press charts the changes in the uniforms of both the cavalry and infantry over the period. Changes to the uniforms are discussed in detail and the book is divided into four parts. Part One highlights the common items of the cavalry. Part Two considers the uniforms of the officers' and other ranks of the Household Cavalry, the Royal Horse Guards, the Horse and Dragoon Guards and the regiments of Dragoons and light dragoons. Part Three addresses the common items of the Foot Guards and the Infantry and Part Four illustrates the uniforms of the officer's and other ranks of all the regiments in the standing army of the period.
