The Errant Boys

English

By (author): Philip Cooper

A modern and loose update of the picaresque adventures of Cervantes Don Quixote The heroes must face, and battle, some of the important issues of modern day life.  How Don Quixote and Sancho Panza would have fared in todays world.
The Errant Boys is a voyage of self discovery as well as an odyssey which sees the main characters get into various scrapes. It is about the perceptions of the main character and how he sees the world . His sense of injustice and the wish to put the world to rights runs up against reality which poses questions about just how delusional he is.
During his adventures the heroes comes up against such issues as fracking ,community action, and modern slavery as well as less complex matters such as a street mugging.
The main characters are brought up against the fragility of life and this represents as much of a challenge as the adventures pose. An unexpected change in financial circumstances puts the main character in a dilemma as regards how he is going to do good things and thereby improve the lives of the people he comes across. He learns more about his ethnic identity and a relative who fought in the Second World War. In the end, as befits an odyssey : he comes to something of an epiphany, prompted by the circumstances in which he finds himself at the end of the book. See more
