Over Agaynst the Chappell

Intrigued by a carved mask in the angle of beautiful bargeboards of an old building near her home, retired librarian Sue Brown determined to discover more about the edifice. This, the earliest of a three-part story, imagines the building in its busy 17th century marketplace setting and tries to solve the mystery of a date and some initials which, respectively, appear on a tie beam above and a projecting moulded tie beam below the attic window.
