About

Prof. Bhaskar Sen Gupta is a Professor at the School of Energy Geoscience Infrastructure and Society Institute for Infrastructure and Environment Heriot-Watt University Edinburg Scotland United Kingdom. He is an environmentalist having a special interest in contaminated water and soil treatment. His work on sub-surface arsenic remediation without any use of chemicals or waste generation received worldwide acclaim for novelty and sustainability. He has been involved in environmental research with a special focus on low-cost water and wastewater treatment in Asian countries over the past 30 years. During this time he has implemented many groundwater/soil remediation projects in India Malaysia Bangladesh Cambodia Chile and Mexico.   Prof. Nadia Martínez-Villegas is a Professor at the Applied Geoscience Division at IPICYT in Mexico president of the National Institute of Geochemistry (INAGEQ) co-chair of the Arsenic Research and Action Network (ARAN) and editor of the Royal Society Open Science. She is also the principal lead of more than 10 research projects co-author of more than 50 research papers advisor to more than 25 doctoral masters and bachelors theses and advocate of science outreach. She was recognized with the Royal Society Newton Advanced Fellowship as a finalist of the Newton Prize in 2018 and as a mentor for women in STEM. She was awarded scholarships and prizes from Mexico Cuba Italy and the UK. Her research focuses on studying arsenic and trace elements in the environment.
